Steel fibres today offer the designer and constructer state-of-the-art technology for use as reinforcement
in many concrete elements and applications. Fiber reinforced concrete is a composite material made
with Portland cement, aggregate, and incorporating discrete discontinuous fibres mainly used in slabs
on grade, shotcrete, architectural panels, precast products, offshore structures, structures in seismic
regions, thin and thick repairs, crash barriers, footings, hydraulic structures and many other applications.

Unlike welded wire reinforcement or rebar, which is specifically located in a single plane, steel fibers
are distributed uni­formly throughout the concrete matrix.  The primary function of steel fibers is to
modify micro and macro cracking.  By intercepting cracks at their origin, the steel fibers inhibit crack
growth. For this reason, SFRC can be used to replace welded wire reinforcement or rebar which is
used to control temperature or shrinkage cracks
